WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Please wear: clean comfortable clothes, warm clothes if the weather is cold (our body temperature tends to lower during the practice).
Don't hesitate to take an extra sweater or warm socks.
Help us keep everyone's experience comfortable by avoiding strong perfumes or body odours.
DO I HAVE TO BRING SOMETHING?
We have mats and the needed material.
If you think you will get too cold, you can always take a blanket to cover yourself during the cold season.
I HAVE NEVER PRACTICED BEFORE, CAN I COME?
YES, come at any time of the year, each lesson stands on its own. One of the beauties of the Feldenkrais Method™ is that very experienced and newcomers can attend the same lesson and learn a lot.
IN WHICH LANGUAGE ARE THE LESSONS GIVEN?
It depends on the students language preference(s), I can teach in English, French and Spanish, and translate when needed.
ARE GROUP CLASSES ENOUGH OR SHOULD I ALSO TAKE INDIVIDUAL LESSONS?
It really depends on your needs or interest: weekly group lessons are fine for enjoying the benefits of the Method, but if you have very specific needs that you want to address, then specially tailored individual lessons might provide better answers. It also depends on your budget.
HOW MANY INDIVIDUAL LESSONS DO YOU RECOMMEND?
It is decided on a case-by-case basis. Each person's learning rhythm and needs are different. It is probable though that only one lesson will not be enough to answer your needs. After 4 or 5 lessons you will be able to feel if the Method is helping you and if it is a convenient approach for you.
As an anecdote: Moshe Feldenkrais (creator of the Method) said in various interviews that taking as many lessons as the person's years of life, up to 60 years old, should be enough to address the person's needs.
WHY DO YOU SAY THAT THE FELDENKRAIS™ METHOD IS NOT THERAPY?
Indeed we speak about pedagogy (teaching) and learning process.
The notion of therapy gives us the idea that an external intervention would bring "back" the "patient" to his/her "normal health state", which means a state considered to be more or less fixed.
This is in contradiction with the principal aim of the Method, which is to allow everyone to improve the quality of his/her life, realise his/her potential and bring out the best of him/herself, regardless of the initial situation; and doing this by developing his own internal authority, the capacity to decide by him/herself what is good for him/herself, all along an ever-changing process: life.
That is why we say the Method does not heal, but instead, it can help someone to get the best out of him/herself in a process of continuous improvement, which stops only when the person decides to stop learning.
